Recommended Best Viewing Area

For a more comfortable viewing experience try Charlton Road or Whitstone Road, excellent view for photographs.

The start area and town center get very crowded.

Carnival Route

The carnival procession will start outside of Shape Mendip offices at 19:30 hrs and finish at 40 Whitstone Road.

The following roads will be closed from *18:45hrs until the end of procession : Cannards Grave Road, Townsend, Old Market Road, Commercial Road, Paul Street & Charlton Road. Whitstone Road will close at 19:30hrs. * roads may close earlier from 6pm if required for public safety.

End of Carnival

To leave Shepton Mallet after the procession Marshals will direct traffic to the nearest main road for onward travel, this may mean a small detour for some but it will be the quickest route home whilst the carnival is still progressing in other areas of the town and the carts are making their way to Wells on the A371, which will be closed until all carts have arrived at the Wells Relief Road (approx Midnight).

Please note for safety issues, no pedestrians may stand or walk through the area of St Pauls Street between the traffic lights at the Nat West Bank/ Thomas Cook and continue through to Phillips Tyres, this will be a sterile area.

The performing rest area will be from the pedestrian entrance of Whitstone School in Charlton Road and finish at the main school entrance at the junction of Kyte Road.
